Of course Kanye doesn't end with his statement about children he has to continue on to what I think is the weirdest and worst part of the interview. He puts himself on the same level as the guy who stood in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Saying he is constantly under fire from the media and everyone else. He even calls it the "social media tank" to really try to drive the imagery home with people.
In this Q&A he then proceeded to make several remarks involving Michael Jackson even one where he compared M.J. to Jesus Christ. "Jesus died for our sins... Michael died for the sins of our media." He goes on to say that if Michael Jackson had a twitter he would explain himself for the different things he did that the media saw as wrong. The big one Kanye points out is the baby over the ledge.
Kaney goes on to say he feels like he has to be the voice for people like Michael Jackson, Alexander McQueen, people who commit suicide. He claims he knows what they went through on an intimate level because he too has been hurt by people, felt suicidal and a myriad of other emotions. I've felt things too on a deep emotional level but I would never ever think to try and explain the pain someone else is going through based on my own experiences. It doesn't take a genius to understand that people have different life experiences and see things through their own eyes.
Kanye West it seems likes to take credit for anything and everything he can. He says how his songs like College Dropout have completely changed the face of every rap song that has come out after their release. He also hints that because he interrupted Taylor Swift at the awards ceremony she was made into a bigger sensation. Maybe she should send him a fruit basket and a card reading "Thanks Kanye, without you I would never have been on the cover of magazines or sold so many albums, Taylor" or maybe she is a legit musician and doesn't need someone else taking credit away from her.
Eventually he makes some remark about the life and murder of Emmett Till. He of course gets the story wrong saying Emmett was dating a white girl and got killed because he whistled at her. Only part of that is correct. Emmett was visiting family in Mississippi and was apparently seen talking to a white woman in public and rumor has it he whistled at her later on so some idiots beat him to death. His mother had an open casket ceremony to show the world what was done to her son. I listened to the interview a few times and I'm still a little confused as to why he brought this one up, but I think most of what Kanye West says makes no sense.
Kanye also in this interview claimed his songs were just like paintings because they are individual works of art and a large number of man hours goes into them. I wonder if he considers himself to be the Michelangelo of musicians and his songs are like the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Where is Kanye West going to end with his self comparison?
He went on to say our world lacks taste and that to have taste people are labeled gay or less of a man. He considers himself a "crusader of opening people's minds" and thinks that taste has been "thrown into the shallow box." Through his actions and music he is trying to bring people out of the dark and bring back the appretiation for black and white movies, opening the door for women, and putting an effort into the way you look and dress.
He really does try to put the weight of the world on his shoulders. Kanye wants to explain the things that people can't because they died or killed themselves. He wants to bring everyone together through his music. Kanye claims he says things that no one else would and allows himself to be put under fire for the benefit of everyone (almost like a Jesus figure?), and he wants to bring back the class of years past. All I can say is good luck and maybe try to take your head out of your ass first.
